Today's a very special day
I know that to be true
One with mixed emotions
though I'm happy for you.

Today you leave the nest I made
and learn to spread your wings
Where you'll grasp new adventures
of life and other things.

Today you make a memory
as each one plays a part
A faded photograph in time
forever in your heart.

Today you hold my hand in yours
while standing by my side
About to face new challenges
on another path of life.

Today, anticipation
wondering what's to come
Excited yet apprehensive
of the journey you've begun.

Yet today you'll grow a little more
and learn to spread your wings
As each year marks a difference
with each memory it brings.
