Gathered in silent reflection
in the autumn chill of dawn
For all those we remember
a nation forever mourns;
When history was re-written
Australia could not forget,
As we stand in silent tribute
to pay them our respects.

Tearful eyes reflecting
on those they've loved and lost
As floral bouquets are placed beneath
one simple wooden cross;
Now remnants of the Broad Arrow
the cafe that had been
That day's painful reminder
of the bloodshed that was seen.

Ten years is a long time
though it seems like yesterday
So many battles have come and gone
but we still remember that day;
A sensless act of violence
that rocked this little town
The day a hail of gunfire
brought Port Arthur down.

For ten years we have pondered
asking ourselves why
One man had the power
to end so many lives;
But still we have no answers
and I guess we'll never know
'Cause in the end it's all the same
and we all share the sorrow.

As dawn gives birth to morning
over the historic remains
Another wreath is placed there
where 35 were slain;
Sunrise at Port Arthur
reflections of respect,
A nation pays them tribute -
we never will forget.
